Student Scholarships

Realizing the challenges of working while achieving an education, the Foundation offers scholarships to full-time and part-time students majoring in a hospitality related field. These include both college students and high school students, who are either working at member properties, or are dependents of employees working at member properties. The Foundation awards scholarships to three students each year.

Who is Eligible?

College students must have already completed at least 15 college credits and be enrolled for an additional 15 credits. In addition, they must be currently majoring in a hospitality related field, and are required to maintain at least a 2.50 grade point average (GPA).

High school students must have successfully completed the Lodging Management Program (LMP) and achieved certification. Internships through the Lodging Management Program must have been completed through, or be with a NYSH&TA member. High school students should also plan to major in a hospitality related field when they attend college.

Student Scholarship Awards

Scholarship recipients who are full-time college students receive $1,000 per semester for a maximum of $4,000. Part-time college students receive $500 per semester for a maximum of $4,000. In the event a part-time student becomes full-time, then the student will be given $1,000 per semester, for a total of $4,000 per student. Scholarship payments begin the semester following the formal presentation of awards.

One of the three annual scholarship recipients will receive the Louis N. Ventresca Scholarship Award, which is the highest and most coveted honor the Foundation distributes. First awarded in 2004, this scholarship is named after the Foundation's first Chairman of the Board, Louis N. Ventresca, and is recognized with additional funds.
